Surgery abroad without NHS referral
NHS Scotland does not recommend choosing to pay to travel abroad for surgery as part of a packaged holiday. This is sometimes called surgical or cosmetic tourism.
NHS Scotland is under no obligation to provide any aftercare other than emergency care.
We will not be able to do the routine specialist monitoring and aftercare that is required after these procedures.
It is vital that if you do go abroad for private surgery without NHS referral that you have arranged adequate private aftercare as this will not be available on the NHS in Scotland unless in a clinical emergency.
